Statue of Somdet Phra Bowon Raja Chao Maha Surasinghanat at Sanam Luang in Bangkok. He was born in 1743 as Boonma and died in 1803 as the first uparacha or viceroy of the Rattanakosin period.

He was the younger brother of king Rama I and a great warrior who often fought at the side of his elder brother. In 1785, when the Burmese launched a major attack on Siam, he took up position in Kanchanaburi and successfully blocked the Three Pagoda Pass, the key Burmese invasion route.
